He started diving in the mid 1950s and discovered a passion for underwater photography. This hobby required specialized equipment. Hollis earned an engineering degree and was able to develop his own housings. In 1965, Hollis opened an underwater camera store called Anchor Shack in Hayward, California. Soon, he began receiving mail orders about his housings.

The company produces rebreathers, diving computers, and novel diving masks featuring heads-up displays. They are also responsible for the development of military diving gear, including the MK-25 used by US Navy Navy frogmen as well as other naval work divers.
Hollis Scuba Diving Equipment

Recalled dive computers
Hollis-Scuba recalls several defects in its dive computers. These flaws can cause divers to drown. The recalled dive computers have a faulty air flow control system that could cause the diver to lose control of their breathing underwater. These dive computers were bought between November 2010-July 2012 for around $1200. For repairs, the units can be returned either to the manufacturer or to a dealer.
